At 6.5–7 on the Mohs scale, jadeite resists scratching better than most gemstones. What it does not resist is impact. A bangle struck against a hard edge will crack, and a crack cannot be repaired.
Four habits
Wear it, do not store it loose
A bangle kept in a drawer with metal jewellery will pick up scratches. If it sits unused, wrap it.
Take it off for impact work
Lifting weights, moving furniture, cycling. These are the situations that break bangles.
Clean with water and a soft brush
No ultrasonic cleaners, no steam, no acid. Warm water and a soft brush, then pat dry.
Keep it away from solvents
Untreated jadeite is not affected by household chemicals, but a waxed surface is.
The most common cause of damage is not wear. It is a single knock taken while carrying something else.
